JUST ANNOUNCED: Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen fame, Baltimore’s first winner of the James Beard Award for Best Chef (Mid-Atlantic), is now confirmed as a speaker at the conference!

“Food Fight! Healthy? Sustainable? Realistic?”, will host interested citizens, foodies, farmers, suppliers, civic leaders, and many others in a day full of exploring the why’s and how’s of our current food system and our role in supporting a more equitable one.

Featuring national and regional speakers in highly interactive sessions, “Food Fight!” aims to help discover what would work best for a future food system based on Eastern Shore agriculture. Whether you operate a farm, food-related business, or simply shop for food for your family and would like to know more about where it comes from, this conference will leave attendees better informed to make decisions that can positively affect our region’s overall health and sustainability.

The problem of food waste, whether in the production, distribution, consumption, or waste management aspects of its lifespan, is an almost unescapable topic. The Eastern Shore may play a bigger role than you think, too. Home to some of the region’s richest soil, the Shore produces a substantial portion of Maryland’s wheat, soybeans, and corn, as well as poultry – therefore representing a significant spoke in a food production wheel that doesn’t seem to be rolling as smoothly as everyone would like.
