$390,000 Available for Agriculture and Forestry Projects – Pre-Proposals Due Oct 16

A total of $390,000 is available to be distributed to one or more projects.  Projects should be one to two year in duration. Previously funded projects have ranged from $30,000 to $200,000. Projects that leverage this funding with external sources of match funding are preferred. Multidisciplinary and collaborative (academic, stakeholder, industry, agency, etc.) projects will be given priority. Projects would initiate in January 2018.

The Center, affiliated with the University of Maryland College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, seeks to address research and policy analysis around five strategic initiatives identified by the broad constituents of the Hughes Center.  The five initiatives include:

  1. Expanded agricultural and forestry markets;
  2. Economically viable forestry in Maryland;
  3. Healthy Chesapeake watershed;
  4. Profitable and resilient agriculture and forestry mitigate climate change through soil health; and
  5. Renewable energy supports sustainable farming and forestry.

In order for a pre-proposal to be considered, it must address one or more of the broad areas noted above and specifically what follows below.  Pre-proposals should be submitted by email to sdorsey1@umd.edu by 5pm on October 16th, 2017.  The research proposals should be innovative and designed to enhance the knowledge base in the area selected.
