Exports – A Valuable Revenue Stream Opportunity
The U.S. and Maryland Departments of Commerce are bringing ExporTech to the Eastern Shore. ExporTech is a successful 3-month accelerator program targeted to help companies enter or expand into global markets.
With 95 percent of the world’s consumers living outside of the United States and with 85 percent of world’s economic growth occurring outside of the United States from 2013 and projected into 2018, exports provide a large opportunity for business to grow, become more competitive, diversify portfolios and weather changes in the U.S. domestic economy.
Exporting is an exciting and potentially profitable activity for both exporter and customer; advances in technology have made the process much easier for all parties involved.
However, your decision to export should not be made lightly; it ought to be part of a long-term vision and the result of an informed appraisal of the domestic and international market. Sound advice for most businesses is that you should not consider exporting until your business has achieved success and been in the domestic market for some time, because it is only after those in overseas markets see your commitment to the product or service that they will add their efforts to your venture.
The ExporTech Accelerator program jointly offered by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Service, and the Maryland/DC District Export Council with participation form other federal, state, and local partners helps guide participants in crafting an export plan and mentors you in the plan’s execution.
Customized workshops that avoid “death by PowerPoint” help companies extract the specific information they need through planning exercises, one-on-one consultations, and subject matter experts. Individual coaches are assigned to each company to accelerate progress between sessions.
The Maryland Dept. of Commerce provides a 2/3 reimbursement towards the $900 program fee upon completion of the program. Space is limited to six companies.
The three one-day sessions are scheduled for the last weeks of August, September, and October and will be held at the Eastern Shore Innovation Center in Cambridge, MD.
